Tongits
Philippines' Favorite Card Game
About Tongits
Tongits is the most beloved card game in the Philippines, played with a standard 52-card deck among 2-4 players. The goal is simple: form valid combinations (melds) and empty your hand before your opponents. The player with the lowest point total when someone calls "Tongits" wins the pot.
At i8 Club, you can enjoy Tongits online against other players or practice against AI. The game features intuitive controls, smooth animations, and fair matchmaking to ensure an authentic Filipino card gaming experience.
How to Play Tongits
Game Setup
Each player receives 12 cards (for 3 players) or 13 cards (for 2 or 4 players). The remaining deck forms the draw pile, with the top card starting the discard pile.
Objective
Be the first to reduce your hand to zero cards by forming valid melds (combinations). When you cannot form valid melds, minimize your hand points before someone calls Tongits.
Turn Structure
- Draw: Take one card from the draw pile or discard pile
- Form Melds: Group your cards into valid combinations
- Discard: Place one unwanted card on the discard pile
Winning the Game
You win by either forming valid melds with all your cards, or calling Tongits when you have no valid moves but fewer points than opponents. The last player with cards in hand must pay the pot.
Valid Melds in Tongits
Sets (Three or Four Cards)
Three or four cards of the same rank (e.g., three Kings, four 7s). Sets must have different suits.
Runs (Sequences)
Three or more consecutive cards of the same suit (e.g., 5-6-7 of Hearts). Runs must be in consecutive order.
Card Point Values
When calling Tongits, remaining cards count toward your score:
| Card | Points | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Ace | 1 point | Counts as 1 |
| 2-10 | Face value | 10 = 10 points |
| Jack / Queen / King | 10 points | Face cards all equal |
